Context
I was tasked with redesigning our largest product: 30 million MAU’s and 2 million highly engaged users. Article pages are the primary source of revenue for the company, via ads, and it is the entry (and exit) point for the majority of users.
The product was three years old, difficult to work on, and built for a different time. It was hard (sometimes impossible) to test new ideas quickly, it did not align with the brand, and the company had ambitions to experiment with a paywall, which required a modular approach.
Outcomes
- Mobile ad viewability improved +55.6%, rising to the industry standard
- Engaged time up +15%
- Bounce rate decreased -4%
- Start render time down -52% and load complete down -42%
- Shipped first design system
